The story begins in the 70’s !
We all bumped into each other over the
mid to late 70’s playing in cover bands like
and , who had Bob Banks
as lead vocalist. Bob had introduced Graham and Dave to Lou,
whilst Lou had already met Lindsay through the Spalding music
scene in the 70’s.
Bob and Dave also played with Lindsay in 77 in a Spalding band
with Andy Stone who is still working now as a full time musician.

The Real World from left to
right, Andy Cox, Lou Bryant, Dave Smith and Graham Collins
came out of these bands
over a two-year period in 1979 / 80 starting as a covers band
playing songs by groups like Wishbone Ash, Thin Lizzy and Mountain.
It quickly became apparent that song writing was much more interesting
and satisfying and within just a few months we changed into
an extremely well rehearsed and tight band that performed a
complete set of original material written and developed by the
band members. Pete Sharpe had joined us from our Renegade days
and took on the mantle of sound engineer as well as lighting.
He helped forge our sound and joined in on the song writing
side of the band.

Time Out 1979-1980
Pete still lives in Bourne’s smallest house and produces
an extremely entertaining web site - www.petersharpe.co.uk
( Hope you don’t mind us giving that out Pete )
We gigged around the Stamford and Peterborough area during those
two years including venues such the Bull & Dolphin in Peterborough
( now a shopping centre) and the Danish Invader (still around
.)
A highlight of our live work
was appearing at the very first Stamford Meadows Festival on
July 12th 1980. The event showcased three bands on stage that
day. They were ,
and . The Stamford Mercury
previewed the event and also featured us earlier in the year
in a regular “Music Scene” spot in the paper.
We eventually went our separate ways and briefly as follows:
Dave Smith - Guitar and vocals - over the last twenty-five years
played in many local bands around Peterborough such as ,
and .
Time Out take to the stage
at the Stamford meadows festival July 12th 1980
Graham Collins - Guitar and vocals - well
recognised within the local muso scene as the areas top guitar
player. ( So he says !) Continued to write and play with bands
like and the critically
acclaimed (Also so he says!) . Lou Bryant - Bass Guitar and vocals - also continued
to write and perform with local bands and musicians including
,
and . Lindsay
Barn - Drums – went on to play as a professional drummer
around Europe and is still involved in the music business in
management and promotions. We had no real contact with each other
apart from a brief reunion some 15 years ago to play at Bill
Pauley’s birthday bash. We also used this reunion to record
a song that Lou and Graham had written called . Featuring on this recording is , who added some tremendous
vocal parts on our new CD “Welcome to...” You can
listen to in our
music section.
In autumn 2004 Lou found himself with
time on his hands and fulfilled a long ambition to transfer
all the recorded material he had from our old cassette tapes
onto CD. (You can listen to some of this old material on this
site – .)
He managed to track us all down and presented the CDs to us
over a few pints. This chat resulted in us meeting up in a rehearsal
studio and trying out some of the songs from 1980. This proved
to be a very enjoyable evening which developed over a few months
into the new band. Other commitments meant that Lindsay had
to let go with the project and Andy Cox from Peterborough stepped
in on drums.
Writing, rehearsing and recording over
the last 18 months has resulted in the fulfilment of all our
ambitions and that is the production of an album of new songs
written by Graham, Dave and Lou and produced by Lou.
The album is called and can be listened to and bought from this
site just
You can see that we are no spring chickens but we think age
is no barrier to good music so we hope that you enjoy our songs
and playing -
We are booked for the Bourne Festival on the 7th of June and
are planning an official CD Launch after that - please for details.
